Sylvia grew up in the Northeast Edmonton area shortly after her parents immigrated from the Netherlands. There she married and brought up her children in the same church, home and school environment that she herself was raised. Once the kids were attending school full-time she decided to pursue her medical career.
She took her PCA course over the time frame of a year while employed with the Capital Care group in Edmonton assisting the residents in many aspects of their well being. Whether it be post surgical or in the alzheimer unit or the palliative ward, her love for her career blossomed.
A few years later she then became a member of the first team to begin a new home care program in an assisted independent seniors home. While at the home for several years she cared for many residents in different stages of their lives. Some areas of her experience included assistance with routine or palliative care.
Later Sylvia moved on to be an assistant manager for a busy clinic with four podiatrists, aiding patients and doctors from reception to assisting in the surgical suite. She spent twelve years there learning the managerial aspect of a clinic environment and how to maintain a successfully run business.
From there she left to continue and gain more knowledge in the field of optometry. She has joined the team as a receptionist for Fort Saskatchewan Eye Care. All the knowledge and experience obtained over the previous years has brought her to our new practice.
Sylvia and her husband have a loving family of five children, and it has grown in the past twelve years to include two beautiful grandchildren. She hopes to continue her career at Fort Saskatchewan Eye Care for many more years to come and is very happy to be working along such wonderful colleagues in the field of optometry. She resides in the city of Fort Saskatchewan with her family.
